Chiang Mai (Thai: เชียงใหม่ (help·info), Lanna (local): เจียงใหม่), also sometimes written as "Chiengmai" or "Chiangmai", is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand, and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province. It is located some 700 km (435 mi) north of Bangkok, among some of the highest mountains in the country. The city stands on the Ping river, a major tributary of the Chao Phraya river.
In recent years, Chiang Mai has become an increasingly modern city. It has several attractions for the approximately 1 million visitors who come each year. Chiang Mai has also gained prominence in the political sphere, when in May 2006 the so-called Chiang Mai Initiative was concluded here between the ASEAN countries and the "+3" countries (China, Japan, and South Korea). Chiang Mai's historic importance is derived from its strategic location on the Ping river as well as trade routes. Long before the modern influx of foreign visitors, the city served as a major center for handcrafted goods, umbrellas, jewelry (particularly silver) and woodcarving.[citation needed]
While officially the city (thesaban nakhon) of Chiang Mai only covers most parts of the Mueang Chiang Mai district with a population of 150,000, the urban sprawl of the city now extends into several neighboring districts. This Chiang Mai Metropolitan Area has a population of nearly one million people, more than half the total of Chiang Mai Province.
The city itself is subdivided into four wards (khwaeng): Nakhon Ping, Srivijaya, Mengrai, and Kavila. The first three are on the west bank while Kavila is located on the east bank of the Ping River. Nakhon Ping district covers the north side of the city. Srivijaya, Mengrai, and Kavila cover the west, south, and east side respectively. The central part (the old walled town) is covered mostly by Srivijaya and partly by Nakhon Ping and Mengrai wards.
Loy Kratong Festival or Festival of Northern Thailand called tradition, "Yi Peng" is for Tony to the River. That we drink and bath. Discharge lamp with night. Full sky in Chiang Mai is very beautiful because the light emission is the belief of the people of northern Thailand because it has left suffering with lamp.
Sorry that I am very much the wrong type. Because I am not good at English. You intend to read the city of Chiang Mai. Hope that you would receive from the city of my knowledge. Hope that soon you will visit Thailand. Chiang Mai and thank Champion.
I live in Ha Noi, Viet Nam Ha Noi isn't a modern city, it is ancient. My city has not many high-building like Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur or Manila. Ha Noi has lots of lakes and trees It's 999 years old In the fall of 1010, King Ly Thai To (Ly Cong Uan) moved the capital from Hoa Lu to Dai La. On the way, the king saw a vision of a golden dragon ascending from the Red river ( song Hong). The King decided to change Dai La to Thang Long (Ascending Dragon). Thang Long remained the capital city until the end of the Tran dynasty when in 1397, the capital city was moved to Thanh Hoa -Tay Do (Western Capital) and Thang Long became Dong Do (Eastern Capital).
Vietnam was invaded by China in 1407, and the city was renamed Dong Quan. In 1428, after ten years of fighting, Le Loi liberated Vietnam and renamed the city Dong Kinh. In 1527, the city was renamed Thang Long. In 1802 when King Gia Long (Nguyen Dynasty) moved the capital city to Hue, the name Thang Long remained but, Long no longer means dragon, Long in this case means prosperity. Ha Noi, was the name given to the city by King Minh Mang in 1831. Ha means river and Noi means within - Ha Noi means within the river.
Most Vietnamese and Westerners are familiar with the phrase Ha Noi ba muoi sau Pho Phuong or Ha Noi 36 districts. This phrase often causes much confusion for most people since, on the one hand Pho means a street or a place for merchants to gather to do business, on the other hand Phuong means a district or a guild of artisans specializing in a particular trade (phuong cheo, phuong tho, etc.). In any case, there is some truth to the use of both descriptions.
Similar to the Guilded age of Europe, Ha Noi's 36 districts is Vietnam's version of the guild concept. Long ago, as artisans moved to the capital city to do business, they gathered together in an area as a way to share resources. As a result, many of the streets are named after the crafts that were sold on that street. Pho Hang Bun (Vermicelli), Pho Hang Ma (paper product), Pho Hang Bac (Jewelry) are a few of the streets carrying the name of the products sold on the street.
Today, the 36 pho or old district remains in Vietnamese literature as a quaint and familiar description of this part of Ha Noi. Although many of the streets no longer have the products for which they were named, some still do. Today, on many of the streets, there are still shrines dedicated to the individual diety of the trades for which the streets are named.
Van Mieu - Temple of Literature - the 1st University of Vietnam
Originally built in 1070 in the Ly dynasty, the temple is a shrine to Confucius and his disciples responsible for spreading his teachings. Six years later, Quoc Tu Giam or School for the sons of the Nation was established for the princes. The school later admitted sons of mandarins and finally commoners were allowed to attend but, only after they passed a rigorous examination at the regional level. In 1484, Van Mieu became a place to memorialize the most brilliant scholars of the nation.

I am Indonesian.and I came from Palembang city in South Sumatra Province. My city also one of the host 26th SEA Games 2011.
These are some Information about my hometown city :
Palembang is the capital city of South Sumatra Province of Indonesia. It was formerly known as the capital city of the ancient Kingdom of Srivijaya. Located on the Musi River banks on the east coast of southern Sumatra island, it has an area of 400,61 square kilometres and a population of 1.441.500. Palembang is the second-largest city in Sumatra after Medan and the seventh-largest city in Indonesia.
Palembang landmarks include the Ampera bridge and the Musi River which divides the city into two, Seberang Ilir to the north and Seberang Ulu to the south. The Seberang Ilir is the economic and cultural centre and the Seberang Ulu is the political centre.
The city was once the capital of the ancient, Buddhist kingdom of Srivijaya that controlled a large part of what is now Malaysia and Indonesia. Following a 1025 raid by the Chola Empire (In the period of Emperor Rajendra Chola I) of southern India it began to gradually decline in importance. Srivijaya's capital eventually moved northward to Jambi. Palembang is also the origin of Parameswara, founder of the Malacca Sultanate.
The architectural legacy of Dutch colonization is still visible in the city. Deep-water port facilities are built along the Musi River, which flows through the city.
Palembangnese is a member of the Malays family, the people speak Malay as their language but with their own dialect and they called it Bahasa Palembang. Other people that are not native to Palembang but still came from South Sumatra usually blended their language with Bahasa Palembang, such as Bahasa Komering, Lahat, Rawas, etc. There are also the people that came from outer South Sumatra. Most of them are Javanese, Chinese, Arab, Indian, Minangkabau, and Sundanese.
The city is served by Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport which has scheduled flights to many cities in Indonesia and also to Singapore by Silk Air and Malaysia by Air Asia. The latter destination being only recently offered by the airport since it has been upgraded to an international airport. This airport also serves other cities around South Sumatra Province.
Palembang's economy has been developed significantly since it became a host for a National Sporting Event in 2004. The city government has set a revenue target of IDR 3.5 billion from advertising alone.Palembang was also one of hosts of the 2007 AFC Asian Cup and will becoming host of the 2011 SEA Games.

Hi, I'm Pirupiru, my hometown is Padang City, the capital of West Sumatra province (But now I live in Bandung). Padang cuisine was already on the culinary map. Decidedly hot and spicy, it slowly became one of the country’s most famous cuisines. Dishes like Rendang, Dendeng or Balado were even in the bags of those traveling abroad Most people in Padang are known to have a profound liking for their traditional foods. Those in the food business are therefore keen to do everything to make others aware of it by serving it differently. And you can find Padang restaurant in every city in Indonesia, even in Malaysia and Singapore
Padang Restaurant
Visit a Padang restaurant, and even in the smallest one they maintain their unique style of putting the dishes in a distinctive way. They put two plates and stack them one above the other. The one below is empty and put upside down while the one on top is filled with a certain dish. They neatly arrange the dishes in a straight row.
So when guests are coming, the waiter will take small plates and put a portion of certain dishes in them.
Those dishes are brought to the guests in a distinctive manner by putting them one upon the other on the left arm, this is a serving style that only trained West Sumatran people can do!
Your table will be full of those small plates and it is up to you to choose. “Why don’t you ask what the guests want or show them your menu?”
No, we don't do that, just choose what you want to eat, and you just need to pay what you eat
