Thanks to this forum, we could meet and learn a lot from each other. There had been many discussions, arguments, criticisms (human nature) here, but after all, we show that we are really friends, one ASEAN.
Now, our little group has grown up a little. There are more things we want to share, and we need a place that can hold all of those. That's why i create a forum, though it's still very simple, as i've worked with it for a short of time.
This forum is still in concept, there are a lot of work to do, and i wish we could together build it up. Some of those are:
- Domain name (firstly i think it is 1ASEAN.NET)
- Forum design: its theme, fonts, logo, banners....
- Forum content: categories, sub-forums, titles...
- Administrators and moderators
- and much more...

Some suggestions for you:
1. Domain Name: Don't choose .net domain. Go for .com (or .org if there is NO other option)
2. Source: I recommend phpBB or Simple Machines Forum. They are open-sourced, and more importantly, supported from a large number of professionals in the area. They are ranked the top open-source forum software in the world today.
3. Categorizing: Start with few forum sections first. When the forum expands, add more later. Don't start with too many sections or it will overwhelm members who are still new to the forum.
4. Keep It Simple: Use simple words. Simple words convey the largest. And make everything else as simple as possible.

Specific recommendations:
Based on the suggestions above, I recommend:
1. Remove International News, Road to one ASEAN family, Trading Opportunities, Software and Games because they are not needed and interesting to members for now. You can add them later.
Instead, for example, add: "Make Friends" (substitute for Road to one ASEAN family). It is more interesting, understandable, and realistically social.
2. I am thinking about removing the section "Football", too. There is no need for one separate section for football here. You can let members discuss about football in Sports.
3. Add moderators when they have proved active and helpful. Don't add too early.
4. Remove the "Banned Members" or make it below. People don't like it there.
5. Most important: Make sure that you have time for this. If not, don't create the forum.

It should be better if you use SMF for free software solutions, YAF is good but SMF has much more to offer =) and their dedicated dev team is slightly fast & better than PHPBB. Other than that i'll just let you guys decide ;)

For some technical issues, currently we have only .NET/SQL Server option. However, it's open source, widely supported with many functions forum. We still have those choices later, but now i think it's not a big problem. What do you think?

- domain name: ASEANLIVE.COM / ASEANVIEW.COM / ASEANCAN.COM (which do you prefer?)
- forum structure & titles: current structure & titles at http://1asean-net.1gb.ru
- board administrators: Bamboo, Majapahit Kid, seagames (or anyone who's willing), could you guys help administrate the forum? It should be a hard work, as promulgate forum announcements, recall/ban rude members, edit/remove uneligible posts, etc....
