The football gap

I was quite sad to watch the match between Malaysia and Timor Leste. I appreciate Timor Leste's participation in the SEA Games but the level gap between Timor Leste and Malaysia on that day was so huge.

SEA football is considered the depression of football world. But among members of SEA, there lies a huge gap not reduceable in the short term.

Around 10 years ago, it was hard to see a strong SEA team win another SEA team with more than 6 goals. However, today it seems the gap is being increased.

It will not be until the level difference among SEA teams is reduced that we will have more SEA teams ready for the continental level.

U'll see more and more if every countries goes the same way as Timor Leste and Indonesia did.
Imagine that we have Republic of Savanakhet (Laos) or DPR Udoni (Thailand) or Kingdom of Java (Indonesia) so we'll have so many more catastrophe match to see, the score board might reach 20-0 =)).

Timor Leste U-16 is actualli quite strong. They draw wif China 0-0 in their group and progress to the next round.

Timor Leste U-16 is actualli quite strong. They draw wif China 0-0 in their group and progress to the next round.

If I remember exactly then vietnam U-16 team has qualified for AFC U16 championship , too, they had a draw against Korea and defeated thailand.

But donchya think that viet team can defeat korea or china to be advanced to Asian Cup 2011 ?
There's a huge gap between youth team and the main team.

Developed countries often teach children basics first, step by step so it might slow at first , but they have a good base to improve, in the contrary, developing countries used to make it fast, cut the progress , want to make a shortcut in everything. When the children dont have good basics technique or knowledge, they can't improve much in the future, although their recent performances are good.

In youth football, the gap between teams aren't that huge, mainly because matches are still largely decided through technical abilities.

However the main difference between the big nations and the smaller ones are whereby how their players develop as they grow older. It is at this stage whereby other factor such as discipline, sports science, psychology,physical development, tactical awareness etc that comes into play. Thats why, having a strong youth team does not equate to having a strong national team in the future. Having say this, i don't mean its not important not to have a strong youth team as well, it is definitely important too.

Timor Leste's independence was just recognized in 2002. It is a fairly new country, give it some time. 8)
