Vietnam is becoming Tiger? I don't think so.

It's too far away, you have to notice that many asian contries haven't stop develop their country yet. Please open up mind (or world) and accept the truth.

If talking in SEA, yeah I think so - Vietnam has potential to be a real big tiger.

Thailand is losing its power now - it is like the wounded dragon, but remember one day it will wake up again. But i suspect, it will take much time as now their politicians are crazy. Poor Thailand!

Indonesia is like sleeping elephant. It is like China in terms of the population power. With the largest population in the SEA region, this country potentially be the giant and real elephant if well-managed. But i suspect, with its well-known corruption, the dream is far to come true.

Singapore - everything is good. There is only one thing that it lacks - and cannot become the tiger is because of the population power. Small country like Singapore will never be the big thread for others.

Laos - everyone knows this country is purely managed by Vietnam. Secure but too small in terms of population. No sign to be the Tiger.

Malaysia already the young tiger in SEA, right? I suspect when this young tiger can become an adult..? Maybe it is not too long, lol.

Myanmar: the dream is long to come.

Brunei: too small. I suspect one day when the oil is run out, how can this country survive?

Cambodia: Like Vietnam, this country is currently benefiting from the political crisis in Thailand if compared to others in the region. Many SMEs are moving from Thailand to Cambodia and Vitenam. The country has potential to be big, but i suspect with prime minister Hun Sen leadership, the dream might be a bit come true!

FOR sport, Thailand is still no. 1, follow by Vietnam and Malay.

It seem true that what country be the host , that country will be the most gold medal?
I think if you say the tiger of Asia, You must see the standard such as Asian game or
Olympic too. Most games in Seagame is judged by Non Standard Referees. And maybe
have some cheat for Host win. But for this seagame , I think it 's very hard for host to
get the most gold medal? So I think what country who get The most gold Medal. that country
would be the tiger of asia.

Just kidding buddy :) ...It always nice to see ASEANS come together. This region of the world should not be forgotten. It's amazing how football can bring people together.

Hopefully one day, one of these SE nations can make it to the world cup. That would be awesome!

I am Vietnamese and I think that Viet Nam still has a lot of things to do in order to be closer to the giants, I hate those boasting terms like dragon, tiger or whatever conveys that boasting idea.

Let me talk a little bit about the complete view, because we seem to live in the illusion of one aspect of the problem.

WE ARE ONLY GOOD AT OUR OWN FORTE!

Vietnam has gained some positive GDP growth this year, but it's only one side of the coin. The other side is the inflation of over 20%. Why didn't the we see that ?

Thailand has good economic and technical potential, but needs more political stability to boost the sustainable development.

Indonesia has a large population and is rich in oil reserve, but a large population is both a risk and an advantage, and all of the oil reserve in this world is predicted to be used up in the next 40-50 years...

Singapore is indisputable the most developed economies in the SEA region, but the relatively small yet ageing population together with the limitation in natural resources may drive them into difficulties when uncertaincy encourages the tendency to seek resources abroad...

Brunei is living on their black gold field, but what if the one day the resource turns exhausted ?

Remember that almost all the economies in the region is living on exporting although the local population is pretty huge, and most of the economies are still suffering negative net export or having a large amount of trade deficit... It means that we are still growing from the low end of the economy evolution.

We export rice, coffee, crude oil, raw materials and import Boeing, Airbus...

We are still far beyond the point that EU or America is now standing in economic terms, not to mention others...

It will be some more decades, or maybe half a century before ASEAN can find enough stability, enough infrastructure, enough supply capicity to operate in resonance and grows into an influential prosperous area like what they do in Europe....

Therefore, would you please:

Stop insulting each other and make a more constructive part.

Stop fooling ourselve that we are the best, we are big, we are strong...to improve the dark aspect of the coin...

Stop dreaming and start stepping forward, firm and intensive...

We all know that we still have problems...

We all know that we are simply not "there" yet...

Why quarrel ?

Those terms (Asian tiger, dragon...) are being used widely by Westerners when they refer to Asian countries. I wouldnt say VN is the next tiger of SE just yet.

I can see that young folks in VN are being optimistic about the future. It's not a bad thing, but we have to realize that there is still a long road ahead...VN might develope into a real tiger one day, but it will not happen in our generation.

Let's blow away corruption in each country before talking about being TIGER or DRAGON..... i Think singapore is great, corruption rate is low, stop talking nonsense about vietnam is a strong country, i'm vietnamese, i can see corruption getting worst and dont need to be "TIGER", propaganda and education system in Vietnam born some guys (lots of them) talking non sense and believe in what thay said even it's non sense, so stop talking about strong country, let's making life for people better! Do things better than Say things and Do Nothing! (NATO = No Action... Talk Only haha j/k)

after 75, my dad was about 22. I was called by the government to do geological survey. He was sent to Con Dạo He happened to find a big American built radio station with modern equipments at that time. Not long after that, the radio station was taken piêce and equipments were sold for scrap metals? what the ****. You see the VietCong were uneducated. They did not know how importance South Vietnam inherited technological advances from the Ụ.S. Most scholars and professionals fled vietnam after 75. From 75 to early 90, they have destroyed and done nothing to rebuild the country. When vietnam occupied cambodia since 1979, a friend of my dad was en electrical engineer was asked to help to build a radio station in Campuchea. They did not have any expert from the North.You see human resources wise, northern vietnam offered nothing..NOthing to the development of vietnam. Instead they even destroyed things that were built before Giai Phóng. This is what has bêen done to vietnam. Not only playing catch up, they have to also correct what they did before. Now i know that there are viet kids studied oversea and some of them over sea vietnamese came back and started helping, it still takes sometimes. I am not saying vietnamese are not intellectual. Infact only in 19 years since Dỗi mo*i' , it has changed alot. However, to catch with for example Thailand in economics, vietnam nêeds a gôod 20 years in fast development. Infracstructure is a mess. Transportation is important. I am a civil engineer in one more year, i have learned that vietnam's infracstructure is outdated by 40 years by normal stardard. New things are built i know. But if anyone has bêen to vietnam knows, trafic is a headache. Before 75, steel industry, automobile industry, manufacturing industry were in place and modern. Now we only hope Japan or Europe give us outdated technologies from the 80s and 90s. How can you compete with others with this disadvantage?
Instead of exporting low end products and labors, vietnam has the natural resources but no needed technologies to produce effeciently.

LIke i said in the other posts, Vietnam cánt be a tiger with the current government. They are tôo slow and the country is ruled by old farts who only completed third grades. Young people only have limited freedom to excel.
