I'm not from Singapore but i think it's not a wise idea. If you lose with them, people will say even with the imported players, they're still losing. And if you win, there will be an asterisk next to your trophy.
I don't care much about imported players of Singapore, it will raise standard of football anyway.
I believe Singaporean , most of them, keep quiet and not make loud noise when they win.
Chinese players of Singapore also make many medals in the game.
Look at Vietnam....when they win in football, I heard that the streets full of motorcyle, having fun, celebrate....because they have the 'pride' in the players of their own nation.
They feel nothing. It happen to every country in the world, when a man who's eligible to get the citizenship, they have stayed long- enough, feel love for the country, so, in the humanity side, they won't give local ppl any problem. They have football quality, so, they play for national side with all their heart. Everyone is happy. But when others criticize, they think about it, they do worry for local boys and they develop local players alongside with foreign players competitively. I understand Singapore :D
For me, even when there are many imported players in your team, it doesn't matter if they play hard as their blood - enthusiasm - nation.
It will be, of course, difficult challenge for internal players. Otherwise, it is somehow good for them since they must learn & improve their ability.
I also understand why there are many imported players in Sing National Team. Simply, Sing is a wonderful country for foreigners run business & live there, so it can be accepted.
Actually, Thai is still NO.1 in SEA even Viet or Malay be champions in this year. It may change in the coming years... 1, 2 or 3 cups is still... far to compare to Thai. But it is good for ASEAN if Thai is caught...
If you have 1 or 2 un-natural borned citizens on your team, that's ok. But when 50% of your players are African borned Singaporean, then it just doesn't look right.
I think Singapore has enough good local players to develope and they dont need any foreign born players.
Seagame is a friendly tournament among Asean countries. If winning is not the most important thing here. I think when you participate in any sport, you're already a winner!

How can u do that, with just 4.8 mil ppl ? Remember not all citizens are footballers. SGP is leading Asean in many sports and economy, too. So importin players seems to be a wise choice.
But each country is different, depends on the ethnics in that country. Since SGP population is mixed from various ethnic and migration, surely it's different to vietnam, thailand or indonesia.
As you can see, Muslisms dont eat pork, but christians do. That's the natural different, not much to conclude if you see vietnamese celebrate a tiny win when SGP don't.
singapore soccer team sending 3rd grade squard team. did,t you know that....
I knew it after watchin the match. I thought it was a high school team at first.
And ur mind is too fixed. I mean with that low population, things sgp've done are very high appreciated. But it cannot change the fact that SGP has no choice but importing talents from other countries.
SGP is similiar to sweden in some way, low population, high development. But sweden did not have so many migrations though.

Well said. That's exactly wat Singaporean think of it.
I'am alright with foreign talent as it improve our standard of football. It gives the local players more motivation to work harder as to fight for their place in the National team.
Actually all the foreign players in Singapore NT have played in S.league from 6 to 10 years in the S.league. For example A.Duric, he have played in the S.league for 14 years already. Daniel Benett lives in Singapore since he was a toddler. Hence, we don't just get players straight away when they come to Singapore.
Look at Sharil Ishak, Baihakki, Khairul Amri, Noh Alam Shah and Indra Shadan, they are the brightest prospect in Singapore football. I think that the standard of our local players does not lose to our foreign players. Just that, when they combined together, we will become even better.
Now, our Singapore U-23 team participated the SEA games with a average age of 19.5 year old. Moreover, without the benefit of the foreign talent. I think that we are building up a base for the future. Most of the players in the team is very young. They can play the next 2 to 3 sea games. We are aiming far, not just for now.
Cheers..

Holland with about 15mil people and they're one of the best football nations in the world comparing to China with 1.3 billion people?
5 million people is a lot of talent to select a good football team.
Somehow i am sick and tired of answering this question. Anyway, here goes...
Singapore is a cosmopolitian society meaning, people from all races and all over the world stay in Singapore. And when people has stayed here and find that it is actually a wonderful place to stay in, they will want to continue staying and thus applied for citizenship.
So you see senior players like Duric, Bennett and Wilkinson in the Singapore team has in fact been living here for quite a while and decided to take up citizenship and also represent their adopted country. Both Duric and Wilkinson first came Singapore to make a living but decided to settle down while Bennett was born in Singapore. As for the Africans, they came to Singapore at a young age to play football as well. We saw the talent in them and offered them citizenship so as to groom them into the good players that they are today.
For me, i am fine as long as local players are given a chance as well. And these local players has definitely risen their game as a result.
So we do use local players as these so called foreigners you all said are really locals.
Holland with about 15mil people and they're one of the best football nations in the world comparing to China with 1.3 billion people?
1st - They r Anglosaxon. Good physical strength, well trained.
2nd - As I've said b4, singapore need so many ppl workin in different careers. Okay, u can select 20 guys from 1000 guys playin football in SGP, how about military ? economy ?
Let's make a quick survey, 5mil = 2.5mil man ( let's hope so ). nearly 2 mil stayin offices, so we have 500.000 left. Now we have to select from this 500.000 a few for football, few for rowlin.....And the chance to find a star in each sport among normal ppl is 1/10000 or lower. That's only sport, but sport is not all you have.Economy ? Military ? Education ? Health care ??? So many many professions to invest human power.
I didn't mean it but it's just a probability problem. You can always win in a 1/100 bet game. But it'd be better if you have 10 chances to dice, or even 50, right ?
That's explain why China so strong, regard of national charaters.

Very clear picture .. Then
Thanks all Singapore fan though ! There are many criticism on imported player of singapores.. Personally , as long as they are not illegal why not he can play.. and even Singapores people don't mind why others have to mind ....ei ei
In fact one of the major problem in Singapore Football is that Chinese in the population are not attracted to participate in the sports! They will only scream in front of their TV set.
And unfortunately for Singapore, the Chinese population constitutes 75% of the population.
Singapore's football std will only improve if the Chinese join in and when that days comes, ASEAN & indeed ASIA will see Singapore's prowess in Football.

Hopefully... But, malay are still the most popular race in soccer now.

How come that 75% chinese of 5mil ppl in SGP be better that 1.3 billion real chinese ?? @__@ ? It's okay in Asean when they join, but for Asia dream, we shall see.
I often wish I could see the younger Cheap Soccer Shoes, and would that the Academy had been filled to-night with our high school scholars and our grammar-school scholars, that I could have them to talk to. While I would have Adidas F50 Adizero, because they are most susceptible, as they have not gotten into any custom that they cannot break, they have not met with any failures as Adidas F50i Tunit Start Kit have; and while I could perhaps do such an audience as that more good than I can do grown-up people, yet I will do the best I can with the material I have. I went to a distinguished Purple Soccer Shoes in mineralogy and asked him where he thought those diamonds came from. The professor secured the map of the geologic formations of our black soccer cleats, and traced it. He said it went either through the underlying carboniferous strata adapted for Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly White Black, westward through Ohio and the Mississippi, or in more probability came eastward through Virginia and up the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a fact that the diamonds were there, for total 90 soccer shoes have been discovered and sold. I have friends who are not here because they could not afford a ticket, who did have stock in that company at the time this Adidas Copa Mundial AG was employed there. This young man went out there and I have not heard a word from him. I don't know what became of him, and I don't know whether Adidas Predator Cleats found any mines or not, but I don’t believe he ever did. As I come here to-night and look around this audience I am seeing again what Nike Mercurial Victory Red White through these fifty years I have continually seen – men that are making precisely that same mistake. I don't believe he ever discovered Indoor Soccer Shoes, and if I am looking in the face of any stockholder of that copper company. HXM
